The POINT Ministries

The POINT Ministries fills a void in Augusta. Before Virginia Lifsey founded this ministry, there were no homeless shelters for women with children.

God’s vision is even BIGGER than The POINT, but 828 Fenwick Street in Augusta, Georgia, is the beginning of new hope!

“If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like noonday. The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, a spring whose waters will never fail.” Isaiah 58:9b-11 NIV

Inside this door hope and new beginnings wait! Virginia Lifsey, the director of The POINT Ministries, Inc., believes that this shelter must point to Christ; she says everything else is secondary! Its Mission Statement reads: Our mission is to bear witness to the saving power of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as demonstrated through the transformed lives of homeless families. Unlike many shelters that provide housing and food and clothing, The POINT offers Jesus, the foundation on which a future can be built. In preparing for this ministry, Lifsey spent a year studying and learning about how to serve the poor with 7 Bridges to Recovery in Atlanta, Georgia, founded by Pastor Seven Wells.

After hearing about The POINT on WAFJ radio, we contacted Virginia, and God opened the door wide for us to be a part of this ministry, utilizing Mangrove Ministries’ gifts and abilities. The POINT is in the process of becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. While Mangrove Ministries assists in this process, we also have opportunities for our version of 3D Bible Study ~ Dinner, Devotion, and Discussion. This allows us to share with the women on a spiritual level and develop a more personal relationship with them.

Renee is creating a Biblically based 6-week curriculum called How to Get a Job. God expects us to work and work joyfully. Topics covered will include: Application Process/ Interview with Mock Interviews/ On the Job Working Environment/ Getting Along with Co-Workers in Adverse Situations/ Job Coaching after Being Hired.

The POINT of everything we do is to give Glory to God through Jesus Christ while we work to serve the homeless families in Augusta, Georgia, by providing prayer, shelter, food, and clothing until these families can provide for themselves.Providing a strong spiritual foundation combined with safe shelter can break the yoke of oppression and satisfy theneeds of the oppressed. This Mission Purpose establishes the spiritual foundation that transforms lives. Volunteers across Augusta lead Bible Studies, teach cooking classes, and become mentors to the women. Tasks involving renovations, new flooring, and required shelving have been completed by both civilian and military volunteers. Even though community volunteers and donations are necessary, this shelter will always point to Christ and give God the Glory. This is The POINT of hope and new beginnings. – Donna Oswalt
